Prototypes: The Davis Bracelet

Here is another bracelet I created using dérailleur cable and pieces of chain link.

This is the hardest style to create. Cable is not exactly a material that lends itself to small scale usages. The cable going through each link in the opposite direction keeps the bracelet flat and under control.

These were the easiest of all the pieces I made. 

They incur the least abuse and they use the least amount of parts.

This is a prototype of my first earing design.

Jewelry Prototypes: Bracelet

Progress is made.

My wife has been wearing some items that I have made.

They haven't broken.

People compliment her on them.

These are made from recycled bicycle parts, but I will be making new ones in 8 different colors. 

This prototype is the bracelet.

What is this?

Or more importantly, what is it a part of that which will be?
I am thinking about calling it "The Davis" after the person that inspired me to make it and made me one similar using his craft.

Sprocket Clocks

Each Year, I try to create a product that I produce 30-40 of to give away as Christmas gifts. Some were successful, others failed. 

One of my favorite products made was the Sprocket Clock in 2005. Made from used sprockets laying around the bike shop, each one was different. 

The first photo is one I made for my (then girlfriend) wife, Erica. I chose this one because the pattern resembles a series of hearts rotated about each other at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. 

The second one I made for myself from a 43t Profile Imperial Sprocket after Christmas when I upgraded my BMX bike from a freewheel to a cassette hub significantly reducing the size of my drive-train.

Bicycle Rim Table

I made this table for my Best Man and Friend Ryan and his wife Amanda for their wedding in Buffalo on December 31st 2005. For about a decade, when any of my friends got married I made a piece of furniture for them.

Constructed from bicycle rims that I bent while riding with Ryan in the Buffalo Niagara Area, I came up with a very rigid design. Two rims were cut in half and another was left whole. I designed a clamp that connected them all together and had 8 identical cut from a 23 layer, 5/8"tk plywood. Those layers were very thin. Each one used 2: 6-32 thread allen head bolts to clamp them together.

The top is a polished 42"dia X 1/2"tk tempered glass top with polished edges.
